Fresh, delicious food and Tong was hilarious! Lunch was out within 10 minutes, highly recommend the chicken fried rice, it is served with a salad and egg roll. Great place for a business lunch, meeting a friend or a date. Will be back. :)
The food tasted good, but you can't order your food the way you want it. Say you don't care for veggies in the dish you order, to bad it is made the way it is made.
Good food really spicy hot when u ask for it.to really really good cooks. Sincerely ANGEL.
But for the prompt service, we had a really bad experience. I ordered one of the lunch specials and so did my friend. First of all, the waiter who took our order seemed very impatient and not so polite. The waitress who served our food did not seem to have any knowledge about the dishes. She did not even know the names of the dishes she was carrying. I am not sure if we ate what we ordered or our orders got swapped. Chicken lacked flavor. Soup was too salty and so was the sauce on one of the entrees. The crispy chicken was okay. Spring roll was decent. The place is clean and has a decent ambience. There was no mention of any curry in the menu. I would expect a Thai restaurant to have some selection of curries.TLDR: Good ambience, bad service, bad food. I won't go again.
The very best place in Springfield. Love the ambiance, the frienliness of the owner and staff. Prompt service. Best Grouper ever !!! I can never wait to go back.
Tongs is the best place to get authentic Thai food in or around Springfield. It's been around for years and is the only restaurant that does not advertise and is still going strong today. I would recommend this place to everyone including ones who don't like Thai food. My favorite is the Thai Crispy Chicken w/ garlic basil sauce. If Tong isn't busy, engage into a conversation with him- his stories are amazing. Such a kind, giving, and hard working man. We appreciate you, Tong!
Tong's Thai seemed to fit the criteria’s for authenticity and customer satisfaction after reading the reviews. However, I was anything but satisfied with my experience. When I arrived at the restaurant, the waiter saw me and made eye contact but continued walking making no acknowledgement of my being there. The owner finally sat us after several awkward minutes. He had an unfriendly, unwelcoming demeanor that made me feel like I was intruding. Service was non-existent. Even though there were only three customers present, I waited 15 minutes to get the water refilled. We ordered crab rangoon, main courses Seafood Pad and Salmon surprise. Proportions were extremely small. Pad Thai tasted bland and lacked texture, noodles were falling apart. Salmon piece was small, sat on a variety of frozen vegetables. Neither the Salman nor the frozen vegetables had any taste, white rice was dry. Due to its lack of service and quality, I do NOT recommend eating here.
Great place for a quick lunch on Amazing Thai food! I had the pad thai and the crab rangoon both are great. Even with only a single staff running the front of the house food was delivered quickly and service was amazing. Definitely a place to check out if you're on the South Side of Springfield Missouri anytime soon and want some great Thai food!
Great place to eat. Ask Tong about his Mission works. Excellent man too!
Not in our part of town, but we will definitely be back. We went because we were picking up a gift certificate for friends, and am so glad we went. It was early on a week night, so there wasn't crowded, but there were several tables occupied. After our dinner, we were the only ones left, and Tong came over and talked to us for quite a while. He is very entertaining and interesting. The decor is authentic, and historical. You can even see the King of Siam. But besides that, the food we had was delicious and plentiful.
Great food and Tong is awesome a great guy to talk to you dont get enough great conversation while eating out.
It good restaurant, they are so friendly.
Personable quick service. The only place in town to get pad thai!
Tong served us personally. The food was excellent!
First time I went I had phai thai noodles with shrimp and chicken. This is my favorite Thai food. It was very dry and very little sauce on it. Decided to give it another try this week end and it was the same thing. Very dry and did not really taste like the Phai Thai that I have had in many other places and even other states. The appetizer of Chicken Satay was over cooked and difficult to pull apart to even take a bit. After two times I dont think I will return. I ate the food but did not enjoy and wont spend my money again.
This is such a cozy and relaxing restaurant to dine at. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly. You can't go wrong by stopping in and having a meal at this place!

How do I begin? I've known Tong a long time. I've never had the opportunity to try his restaurant. The day after he opened it I loved away to another city. Rarely came back to town and when I did, he was closed. After 20+ years!!! Tonight, was the night!!! I finally had my change to indulge in what is authentic Thai food!!! Let me explain. Seafood pad Thai is amazing, I get it everywhere I go... This was by far the most bountiful flavor I've had in Thai food cuisine!!! The sauces are not for the meek!! The taste took me away to another country and his humor and friendliness still shows through. Taking with us, laughing, and carrying on. If you are looking for Thai? This is it... Come see the legendary Tong @ Tongs!!!
First impression: our server, James. Excellent, professional service. He anticipated our needs. Quaint atmosphere. Food: soooooo good! I could have eaten a bowl of peanut sauce as if it were soup. 😋Proprietor: Tong was a hands-on owner/operator who had awesome stories to tell! What a testimony. Looking forward to visiting again for the whole experience. You’ll just have to go to taste and see for yourself.
Be wary of Thai level spicy... I think tongs is probably one of the best in town... I enjoyed the green chili hot sauce so much that the owner gave me a container full of it to take home for free...
Very poor quality food. Chicken in our dishes was very tough. Some ingredients looked over ripe or almost spoiled. My husband has a mushroom allergy and his food had mushrooms in it. The crab rangoons were so over cooked I could not bite into them. We called and was told they were very busy tonight. I would have given zero stays if possible. Very disappointed.

Service was odd. Definitely a neighborhood staple but doesn't seem to attract much of a crowd. Menu is large and could be trimmed down and modernized
Best Pad Thai. Also had soup crab rangoon and egg rolls. Fabulous food and Tong is great. Cant wait to go back.

VERY clean and well managed. Friendly staff and Tong, the owner, even helped wait on our table. Great local Thai food 👍
Food is very good and the service is a 12 out of 10
$40 for 2 people. First off, wow. Secondly, it's mostly VEGETABLES. Hardly any meat, and the meat you do get you have to use a spoon to be able to eat it. And you might get half a cup of meat if you're lucky. I ordered Satay as an appetizer. The chicken was yellow and had a very unappealing taste to it.And who the Eff puts peppers all over fried rice.Like for real. As a chef, I don't eat out very often, and this restaurant gives me more of a reason to stick with my gut when it comes to just not being lazy and cooking my own food.

It good restaurant, they are so friendly.
Wow!! If you like Thai food it is the best...
Best pad Thai around. Great prices. The food is fresh and prepared quickly and expertly. The curry was a little thinner than I prefer but the dish was wonderfully tasty. Thai-rito is definitely something to try!
Good food, good service, clean restaurant, enjoyed our time here. Ordered Bangkok duck with tom munn starter, wife had seafood lovers plate all was well cooked nice tasting comes in 4 types of sauce mild medium hot and thai hot. Thai hot was great for me. Wife enjoyed the hot but had to stop a bit early. Overall great experience cant wait to come back and try some different dishes.

Uses to go into Tong's once a week. Outstanding food and the spice level is on point
Fish was great so was the soup and service was excellent
Good food. (A bit salty for my taste.) But reasonable pricing, excellent service. I would recommend them to anyone. And the Spring Rolls were the best I've had in a long time!

Absolutely the best Thai food in the area. In fact it’s my favorite restaurant overall! The secret is the sauces. The Thai basil sauce is amazing and is my favorite on chicken and fish. The Thailand’s chili sauce is also outstanding. The Tom yum soup is also amazing and shouldn’t be missed.
